It Shall Be Well with You (Shepard Memorial)

Psalm 128 is one of the songs of ascents that would be sung as the people (including Jesus) went up to Jerusalem for Passover. Jesus sang this psalm knowing that entering the blessing meant the curse of the cross first. In this psalm we see a parallel to justification by faith -- being pronounced blessed by faith. And then as a blessed people, we do good works from which more blessings flow. More than this, Jesus is the head of the household of God and he says, "As for me and my household, we will serve the Father." And so we follow His lead and believe -- receiving faith and repentance with empty hands and then using those hands to labor in His church.

His Faithfulness to All Generations (Shepard Memorial)

Psalm 100 is a psalm for giving thanks for the faithfulness of God to generation after generation. In this farewell series we have been looking at the psalms fitting the themes found in Scripture's farewell addresses. At the end of this pastoral relationship it is fitting that we give thanks for God's faithfulness to this church.

A Final Charge: Worship Faithfully

Psalm 84 is a passionate psalm about being in the dwelling place of God. We are in an even greater place of privilege than the sons of Korah mentioned in the heading as we are all priests and we together are the tabernacle or temple of God. So we should be even more excited about worship on Sunday. This is part of my farewell series here in Phelps and Stopover. Unfortunately, I left behind my digital recorder at Peter Creek so I only have one sermon recorded for today. May God give you grace in worship. Amen.

The Face of God Shine upon You (Shepard Memorial)

Psalm 67 calls upon God to bless Israel so that the nations will praise God in thanksgiving for their salvation, fear God in faith, and be saved (three ways of saying the same thing). I pronounce God's blessing at the end of every time of worship and now I am doing so at the end of my ministry here in Stopover not only because I want the best for this church (as I do) but also because I want to see people be saved.
